When realism is surreal

Bonald has an interesting post up about the strange focus “race realists” have on IQ differences between races, rather than the traditionalist focus on cultural and religion. Since all three of TC’s editors were interested enough in the topic to comment in his thread, it seems only fair to give it a bump over here.

I don’t understand why illiberal sites like Alternative Right and The Occidental Observer are always going on about IQ.  They think it terribly important that white Christians know that blacks are dumber than they are, while Jews are smarter.  Biology is supposedly the source of all our problems.  Those of us who focus on culture and religion are supposedly cowards, who are supposedly using these concerns to keep from facing the harsh biological reality.  This can’t be right, though.  Suppose I were to divide the white population up, calling everyone with an IQ above 120 an “alpha”, everyone with an IQ between 90 and 120 a “beta”, and everyone with an IQ below 90 a “gamma”.  If IQ were everything, white alphas should be as big an adversary to Christendom as the Jews, and white gammas should be as big a social problem for America as the blacks (indeed, much worse, because there are more of them).  This is clearly not the case.  I’m sure if we were to look into it, alphas are overrepresented in cultural subversion and gammas in violent crime. but alphas would also be overrepresented in cultural preservation and gammas in the muscle-work of the establishment.  The big difference is that nobody thinks of himself as a “gamma”, while many people do think of themselves as black.  Being black isn’t an IQ range; it’s a whole identity.  It correlates strongly with certain beliefs and loyalties.

The incredibly ironic part to the entire situation is that my IQ is higher than that of most of these “race realists”. So when they show up here and use the argument that “we should get rid of the black people because they aren’t as smart as us”, I’m completely dumbfounded. By that same measure, 98% of the white people would have to go, as well. No, there’s much more to civilization that intelligence, so their argument is simplistic to the extreme, and I only tolerate it in tiny doses.

We do not support getting rid of those considered “undesirable”, whether that is on the basis of race, intelligence, physical or mental disability, age, or any other biological marker. Such a eugenic mentality is something in direct opposition to our core beliefs, and it is the spread of our beliefs — not our genes — that is our mission here.

This blog is primarily a traditional Christian one, which is why our About page says:

Traditional values transcend race. Race is not irrelevant and there are discernible and measurable differences between the different races and ethnicities. This is not a concept we shy away from here, or something we refuse to acknowledge.

However, the Truth is objective and we were all created with the capacity to live and walk in Truth and to choose an honorable, charitable, and life-giving path. For that reason, people of all races and ethnicities are welcome to join us here, and we do not promote race-based politics.

Just to clarify. No, we are not ignorant of “the truth” about intelligence and race. We just don’t really care, as we judge people primarily by the content of their character around here. Not because we’re in denial, not because we’re too stupid to understand, but because that is the basis of our religion and we are not in the business of building utopias on Earth. We just want to survive, evangelize, and hold to our faith and traditions. We’re more interested in growing our group than in limiting it.

It’s a Christian thing, so you might not understand.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Orthodox Christianity is not, never has been, and never shall be a nationalist or ethnic movement. Any attempt to make it so is a perversion of Christ’s message. I have His own emphatic word as proof. He comes first, and those who love and follow Him are part of my family.

Does that mean that a Christian can’t have personal, racial, ethnic, or national alliances? No, it doesn’t. But it does mean that those alliances are to take a backseat to their religious ones. There is no way around that without sinking into heresy. If you are a Christian, you are a Christian first.
