Voting Rights?!

According to NAACP leader Ben Jealous, the biggest issue facing the black community on 2011 is the “attack” on voting rights:

In a pointed keynote address Monday, NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous urged members of the civil rights organization to stand up against restrictive state voting laws, which he compared to Jim Crow laws of decades past.

“Let us be clear, the right to vote is the right upon which all of our rights are leveraged and without which … none can be protected,” Jealous said at the annual convention of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, being held in downtown Los Angeles through Thursday.

Let me get this straight. The black community has a 70% out of wedlock birthrate, and epidemic of fatherless children and a crime rate disproportionate to its numbers in this country. Roughly 50% of black males are graduating from high school, and rather than attempting to ensure struggling black students get a decent education, we have school officials cheating on standardized tests and reporting their fraudulent results as miracle stories.

All this, and the NAACP, the self-appointed advocate for the black community feels the best use of its resources is to fight against state laws requiring a photo I.D. at the polls?

It would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad. These people are irrelevant. They do not speak for me.
