Torture numbers and they’ll confess to anything

In a bizarre twist to a bizarre tale, the Greek government is preparing to become the world’s most hypocritical organization. After decades of falsifying its reports to reduce the deficit, they are now prosecuting the head of the agency that uncovered their lies and then apparently exaggerated the deficit.

From the FT:

The head of Elstat, Greece’s new independent statistics agency, faces an official criminal investigation for allegedly inflating the scale of the country’s fiscal crisis and acting against the Greek national interest.

Andreas Georgiou, who worked at the International Monetary Fund for 20 years, was appointed in 2010 by agreement with the fund and the European Commission to clean up Greek statistics after years of official fudging by the finance ministry.

There is currently no information indicating that they will arrest themselves next. If the crime doesn’t stick, he’ll probably be DSKed or suicided.
