Lies, damn lies, and unemployment statistics

As you can see from Market Ticker’s chart, the employment rate is declining again, at the same time that the unemployment rate is declining. In other words, today’s “positive jobs numbers” show that people are dropping off of the rolls and out of the jobs market. The more people that give up or don’t even bother looking, the lower the employment rate will go.

He (and perhaps others?) apparently caught them fudging the statistics, so they pulled them down and replaced them with slightly more believable ones. Notice the strangely flat line at the end of this graphic:
