Public Service Announcement for Men

Did you know that there is such a physician as an andrologist? I didn’t, until my husband received a mailer indicating that one of the major hospitals in our area has one on staff. To this I say, it’s about time.

Apparently andrology is something of a niche medical field, and there aren’t very many to be found in the U.S. as of yet. In fact, it is regarded as a sub-specialty and is not recognized as a surgical specialty in the U.S.

Chances are that unless you live near a major city or hospital, there probably isn’t an andrologist near you.  However, if you do live near one, I suggest you get yourself (or your husband if you’re female) an appointment if you ever find yourself in need of such services. If you’re a man in need of a urologist for example, going to an andrologist who is usually a urologist by specialty anyway, will help this specialty gain much needed traction.

There is of course, the question of whether such a specialty is needed in the first place. Since men and women are different, and it is readily acknowledged that women have special medical needs, it makes to me sense that men have special medical needs, too.
